What's new in OdooPLM this week 🛠️
R&D anachment

A busy week on the OdooPLM CAD client and the Odoo PLM modules. Here is what hanged and why it matters for people working in Inventor, SOLIDWORKS and the other supported CADs.

🖼️  Faster, cleaner document previews

Thumbnails are now read directly from the Windows shell, with no external helper program. In our tests on a mixed set of CAD files they were about 4× faster: 1.8s instead of 8 s for 11 files. Files with no preview, such as DXF, STEP and DWG, used to get the generic Windows file icon. They now get a clean sheet showing the file format, so you can tell at a glance what you're looking at.

🔐 Expired sessions no longer break your work

If the web session expired while you were working, opening a document could fail with a cryptic "No JSON object could be decoded" error. The client now logs in again and carries on. When Odoo refuses an operation, you see a readable message instead of a raw HTML page. On the server side (Odoo 19, with Odoo 20 on its way), the download routes answer "not found" or "not allowed" clearly instead of a generic server error.

🔎 Easier login

The database list on the login form is now searchable: type part of the name and pick it. If the server doesn't publish its database list, a text field lets you type the name directly.

✅ Checkout Helper improvements

The in-CAD panel that shows who holds each document got more options:

  - a revision column;

  - configurable status texts for read-only and writable documents;

  - label colours you choose from a colour picker;

  - a fix for the "Open" entry, which had lost its text.

The add-ins are now compiled at every package build, so each release ships matching binaries.

🌍 Translations everywhere

 Menus, context menus, dialogs and the Checkout Helper add-ins are fully translatable. The "already logged in" dialog now shows which Odoo server, database and user you're connected to.

Small changes, but each one removes friction from the daily CAD ↔ PLM loop. Feedback from users drives most of this list, so keep it coming! 🙌
